The Challenge is on vacation this month, be sure to check back here next month for another diabolical quiz!

Congratulations and thanks to Kevin Snook for answering last month's challenge correctly. Kevin's solution is highlighted in our JAMF Software Challenge Archive.

Greetings All

We have a number of things to share this month.

First, we have a number of events coming in March we'd like to invite you to attend. We are hosting the first CCA course of 2009 in New York in March with another to follow in April at our headquarters in Minneapolis. Additional information and details on how to register can be found on the CCA page of our website. The CCA courses are designed for Casper Suite customers with at least few months experience on the product, or for those who would like a refresher since their initial JumpStart. The class will challenge you, but more importantly increase your proficiency in all aspects of the Casper Suite.

Also, in conjunction with every CCA course we host a local User Group. These are held the Wednesday of each course. For our upcoming New York user group this will be on March 18, from 6p to 8p. Again, this is open to all Composer, Recon Suite, and Casper Suite customers, as well as partners and other friends of the JAMF Software family...you know who you are. We will be sharing some exciting developments that are underway with our products. More importantly, this provides you a chance to meet and mingle with other users in your local community. We'd love to see you there. So where is there? At this point we have a couple of options, and we'll confirm once we have a sense of the turnout, but it will be in the NYU area of Manhattan. So, please RSVP with Muffy today.

Next, I want to remind all of our Casper Suite customers about our Resource Kit that we published late last year. In January, an additional update was released which included, among other things, additional tools for 6 major anti-virus packages. The goal of our Resource Kit is to combine much of the custom scripting that we, and are users, are doing to extend the reach and functionality of the Casper Suite. Again, thank you to all the customers who've contributed to this process. Our community remains strong and your contributions to this project make it possible. If you haven't yet explored this resource, you can learn more and download it from the Resource Kit page on our website.

Finally, for those who have not yet heard Composer 7 is now out and available as a free update for all current Casper Suite and Composer customers. We appreciate the overwhelming feedback and response we've had to this free update. We have you to thank as so much of this has come from the myriad of feature requests you've submitted to us...keep them coming! If you are a customer who has not yet received this update, please contact me directly, blaine@jamfsoftware.com, and I will take care of it. For those who don't yet own Composer, you can learn more and purchase for a mere $99.95 on the Composer product page of our website.

Support from Support

The new Composer 7.0 offers some additional options when using the Pre-Installed Software feature. Using Pre-Installed Diff files allows you to create packages quickly from software already installed on a workstation, without monitoring the installation.

Composer uses the information in the Pre-Installed files provided to scan through the installed applications on your machine and returns a list of titles for which it can build a package. Composer can use the Pre-Installed files to build packages from the application titles that it finds on your machine.

Composer currently recognizes over 100 software titles ranging from Microsoft Office to OmniOutliner. The list of Pre-Installed files that are currently available continues to grow so don't forget to check for the latest Diff files every once and a while. To do this you can click File >> Download Latest Diffs from the Composer menu.

For additional information on creating packages using Pre-Installed Diff files, or other features in Composer 7.0, check out the manual included in the disk image, or download it from the product documentation section of our PDF Library

Support Your Community

Join our Support Mailing List! The lists often contain discussions regarding problems encountered by other Casper administrators and their resolutions. This free service is available to customers and non-customers via subscription and includes both the Casper Suite and Composer mailing lists.
